This book was a complete discovery for me. It is a book full of magic, pain, doubts and emotions that comprises and summarizes in a logical, structured and coherent narrative the amount of stories and versions about Circe (a greek godess) that currently exists.
The book is logically structured and well planned. You can enjoy Circe's story from the time she was born chronologically. You can discover her feelings, get to know her as she grows up and get in touch with her point of view on life. The author has created a piece full of sense, freeing herself from all the twisted chains that this kind of stories can have, guiding the readers in a concrete story with a clear beginning, middle and end.
Moreover, it is a fantastic story to read in chapters, as each chapter is a short story itself. It is like reading a mini-story about Circe and other gods, You can find adventure, love and plot in each chapter, so you never get bored.
However, it is the theme that really catches the readers. Circe is a book full of meanings and refections. Is a book that can inspire you to make your own decisions, to choose or create your own path to live your life. Setting - Narrative Style
The author's narration involves a lot and the pace of the story makes you can not detach from it, you wants to know more and more. Reading Circe is quite an experience. It feels like reading by the ocean, discovering that each page has its own speed.
As you read it, you feel like Circe is sitting next tou you telling you her story in her own words.
The story does not need a lot of scenes, scenery or characters to make you feel inside it. It is descriptive and built with just the right amount of detail to keep you attached while leaving some room for your imagination.
Characters
This book has few but powerful characters. All of them are very well constructed, and they are the essence of the book.
Here, Circe captures the whole scene. She is an amazing, insightful and intelligent woman. She is full of secrets, seemingly rough but gentle, maternal and sweet. She is a clever woman who respects herself and her principles. A woman that values her solitude and learns lo live by her own laws. She is a woman who knows how to listen, who knows how to obtain her desires at the right time and at the right point.
But, something amazin of the book is that far from her virtudes, she also shows us her dark side, her mistakes, her regrets about her decisions. She shows us a woman angry with herself, a soul that hates hypocrisy and people who always want to take advantage of others. A pride woman who does not give up until she gets what she wants and a woman capable of hurting others to get what she wants.
Undoubtedly, a book worth analyzing.
